Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to use this website. Here is what we have done, what we are still working on, and how to tell us about a barrier.

1. Our commitment
Everyone should be able to find out how to get food, give or volunteer, whatever device they use and however they use it. We aim for this website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.
We keep working on it. If something gets in your way, please tell us, and we will help you get what you need.
2. What we have done
- Keyboard: every link, button, menu and form works with a keyboard, with a clear focus outline. A "Skip to main content" link comes first on every page.
- Screen readers: pages use headings, landmarks and labelled forms. Form errors are read out and move focus to the first problem. Pictures that are only decoration are hidden from screen readers.
- Colour and text: text colours are chosen to meet the WCAG contrast ratios, colour is never the only way information is shown, and text can be enlarged up to 200% without losing content.
- Phones: pages fit small screens from 360 pixels wide without sideways scrolling, and buttons are large enough to tap.
- Language: the language picker in the header translates any page into many languages, including right-to-left languages such as Arabic.
- Plain words: we write short sentences and avoid jargon.
- Testing: every page is checked automatically for WCAG 2.1 A and AA problems, on desktop and phone screen sizes, before each release.
3. Known limitations
- Translations are made automatically by Google Translate and may not always be accurate. If something is unclear, contact us and we will explain.
- The printable volunteer application is a PDF form that may be hard to use with a screen reader. We can fill it in with you over the phone or in person instead.
- Some links lead to services we do not control, such as our online giving pages, the app stores, maps and 211 Saskatchewan. Their accessibility may differ from ours.
- Automated tests cannot find every barrier. We have not yet had the site reviewed by people who use assistive technology.
4. Information in another format
Any information on this site, including our privacy policy, is available in another format, such as large print or read to you over the phone. Just ask.
5. Report a barrier
Tell us the page, what you were trying to do and what got in the way. If you use assistive technology, it helps to know which one. The form goes straight to the people who look after this website, and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
